What You Can Do
Here are actions you can take to have your say on the Sandgate Precinct Plan. The most important thing to do right now is to make a submission to Council to help shape the draft plan.

1. Send a submission to Council ASAP expressing your initial thoughts
Council is currently accepting early community feedback to help shape the draft plan. Even a short email expressing your views and concerns is valuable.
Email: neighbourhood.planning@brisbane.qld.gov.au Subject line: Sandgate Centre Precinct Plan (if you want you can Cc us info@protectsandgate.org and Cr Jared Cassidy deagon.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au).
There is no set format. Write in your own words. A short, clearly-expressed email in your own voice is worth more than a long, generic one.
Here is a submission help sheet which gives you a suggested structure and some topics to get you started. Feel free to pass this on to anyone else you know who might find it handy.
If you or someone you know would like some extra assistance with the writing of their submission, please contact us at info@protectsandgate.org and we’ll get in touch to organise this.
It’s important that you make a submission as soon as you can. Once Council publishes its draft plan, the direction is largely set. Subsequent consultation tends to produce refinements rather than fundamental changes. The greatest potential for community influence is at the current stage.
2. Contact our local councillor
Our Deagon Ward councillor Jared Cassidy represents local residents at Brisbane City Council. Let him know your views on the Precinct Plan - both what you are concerned about and what kind of outcome you want to see. The easiest way to do this is to Cc your council submission to Cr Cassidy’s office: deagon.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au.
3. Subscribe to Council’s planning updates
Council will announce the release of the online survey and interactive map through its planning e-newsletter. Subscribe so you don’t miss it when it goes live.

4. Join our Facebook group and check our website regularly for updates
If you are not already a member, join our Facebook group for updates and discussion.
Locals who are not on social media can always access important information on this website.
5. Talk to others who care about Sandgate
Many Sandgate residents are not yet aware that this planning process is underway. Word of mouth remains powerful. If you know someone who cares about Sandgate but isn’t connected to this group, let them know - and point them to this website.
Stay tuned for future actions
We plan to organise further actions in the coming weeks and months, including community meetings, media engagement and a petition to Council. Stay tuned …
