What plans is Council developing to manage the impacts of increased density on infrastructure, environment and character?
Not AnsweredLocal resident Adam Bowden (also founder of 'Stop Raw Sewage Into SEQ Waterways' FB Page) has asked Council to explain how it is managing the impacts of increased density on: sewer and stormwater systems; water quality entering Moreton Bay; RAMSAR environmental considerations; traffic and parking; and the character of coastal communities. He has asked this both for Sandgate and Wynnum. Two replies have been received but they have not answered Adam's questions. There is no excuse for Council not providing information about Wynnum as the process there is very close to completion.

Adam’s complete list of questions
- How is infrastructure capacity, particularly sewer and stormwater systems, being assessed as part of planning for increased density in coastal communities such as Sandgate and Wynnum?
- What measures are being considered to ensure increased density in coastal precincts does not contribute to declining water quality entering Moreton Bay?
- How are RAMSAR environmental considerations being incorporated into planning decisions for coastal communities such as Sandgate and Wynnum, given their proximity to the RAMSAR listed Moreton Bay wetlands?
- Are there planned upgrades to sewer or stormwater infrastructure associated with any proposed growth in these coastal areas?
- How will traffic, parking demand and transport infrastructure be managed if residential density increases in coastal precincts such as Sandgate and Wynnum?
- What planning measures are being considered to ensure the character of coastal communities such as Sandgate and Wynnum is maintained as redevelopment progresses?
Responses so far
Adam received a reply on 14 March, and after following up with the Lord Mayor, another reply on 14 April, stating that “this project is still at an early stage” and not actually providing any answers to Adam’s questions. It is true that the process is at a relatively early stage in the case of Sandgate, but since Adam also asked about the Wynnum plan, where the process is almost completed, there is actually no excuse for Council not having answered the questions.
